“Weird NJ” Strikes it Big
Weird NJ is the homesite for “Weird NJ” magazine and advertises itself as “the travel guide to local legends and best kept secrets”. “Weird NJ” is the brainchild of Mark Moran and Mark Sceurman, two Jersey guys who were always fascinated by New Jersey’s unique history, spooky legends and just plain weird stories. In addition to the best selling magazine, last year they published a book based on the magazine. According to this article in Newsday, the first “Weird NJ” book has sold 100,000 copies. I’m not a publishing expert, but I think sales of 100,000 is pretty good. Good job guys!!
With the success of the “Weird NJ” book, the two authors are now going nationwide with “Weird U.S.: Your Travel Guide to America’s Local Legends and Best Kept Secrets” to be published this fall. I’m sure the rest of the country has great local legends, but do they have anything to match the albino village in Clifton, the Jackson Whites of the Ramapo Mountains and the Jersey Devil?
